Manhole Covers Site

General

The covers in Azor are usually made of metal or concrete and are square , round , or rectangular in shape.
When round covers are intended for sidewalks, they are surrounded by a square frame, which greatly facilitates the paving work around them (these למעשה constitute all the square covers on the site).

No colored or gilded covers were found in Azor.

Covers intended for the Azor Local Council usually bear the council’s emblem .
Although Azor has not been declared a city (at least up to the time of writing this entry), there are covers bearing the incorrect inscription “Municipality of Azor” .
Many covers are intended for the water corporation “Mei Shikma,” which serves the local council .

As in other places in Israel, a relatively large number of covers intended for other cities were found (the “bug” category) .

There are also covers intended for users that are not necessarily municipalities or local councils. These covers are not tied to a specific city and can be found throughout Israel. For example, covers for the communications provider “HOT” .

The purpose of the cover is usually indicated on it (lighting , sewage , water , etc.), and therefore the number of covers in the “unknown” category is very small.

On a significant portion of the covers in Azor, the year of manufacture appears .

In general, the design of the covers in Azor is not unique and follows designs typical of the manufacturer.

Manufacturers
Usually, the manufacturer’s name appears on the covers, with most of them produced in Israel by several leading manufacturers - Menashe Baruch , Vulcan Foundries , Gelem , and others.
In Azor, a cover manufactured by Cavanagh Foundry from Ireland was also found.

Standards
The standards of the covers include standards unique to Israel (the mark of the Standards Institution of Israel and Israeli Standard IS 489, equivalent to the international EN124 standard ). In addition, the international EN124 standard and the various load classes (B125 - D400) are also present. A cover bearing the British Kitemark standard was also found.
