The factory was founded by Elijah Gelem and initially housed at Raanana Junction. In 1994/5 the factory moved to Neve Yamin, and in 2009 to the industrial area of Tira
The manufacturer produces a variety of covers, most of which are made of metal or concrete covers . The shape of the covers is round . Round covers intended for sidewalks are usually surrounded by a square frame to ease paving work (in fact, these are almost all the square covers made by the manufacturer).
This manufacturer does not produce colored covers. A small number of gilded covers do exist . City emblems or those of the clients appear on a significant portion of the covers , sometimes occupying almost the entire surface area . The purpose of the cover is usually indicated on the covers . Many covers bear their year of production . Many of the covers are made from a fixed mold, to which plates are added as needed (city name, cover purpose, etc.) . At times, the plate is missing, either intentionally or due to wear .
Standards Most of the covers bear the certification mark of the Standards Institution of Israel and the Israeli Standard IS 489, which applies to covers in areas used by vehicles or pedestrians . The European standard EN124 and its associated load classes appear on nearly all the covers, with the most common classes being B125 and D400 .
Typical Covers The manufacturer’s covers are easily recognizable by a unique design: the client’s emblem appears in the center, with arcs above and below it containing the client’s name, the purpose of the cover, the manufacturer’s name, and the load class . There is another very similar series in which the patent numbers appear in the upper arc of the cover (rather than on the side) . Many covers appear to belong to the series above, but parts of the cover are overlaid with concrete . Some covers include a large emblem, and also incorporate elements from the “classic” series (such as a bottom arc showing the purpose, manufacturer name, and load class) . There are also covers that do not include elements from the “classic” series — some probably due to constraints imposed by the client (such as Or Yehuda Municipality , Tel Aviv Light Rail , and others).
In addition, many concrete covers exist, which have a metallic tag (usually round) displaying client information and more .
