A very old company, which has existed for centuries, owned by the Holladay family for the last hundred years (1898-1990). The company operated until 1990 when the company was sold. The company has manufactured a variety of metal products: manhole covers, gears, railings and fences, iron gates, heating products, cooking utensils and more.
Text written by Richard Holladay, member of the family that owned the company: Garton & King (once owned by my family) produced a wide range of Municipal Castings, many examples are to be seen on the Archive Website of this Company at www.exeterfoundry.org.uk - search MUNICIPAL CASTINGS. and also full details of the Company, History & products & customers from over 360 years of its history.
Given the small number of this manufacturer’s covers on the site, it is difficult to characterize them. If additional covers are added, this entry will be updated.
From the covers on the site, it can be seen that the covers are in a shape close to a triangle with a background of squares (although on the page dedicated to the companys products (see link above), it can be seen that it also manufactured square and round covers).
