A manhole cover as part of the "Havner det på bakken, havner det i havet" ("If it ends up on the ground, it ends up in the sea") campaign, launched by the City of Oslo’s Agency for Urban Environment (Bymiljøetaten) to raise awareness of marine pollution and prevent littering in the streets.

As part of the project, students from Grünerløkka School were invited to create drawings on the theme of "litter in the sea and life underwater." The students submitted nearly 100 drawings, of which 10 designs were selected and printed on weather-resistant panels that were attached to manhole covers. A total of 150 colorful covers were installed along the Akerselva River and in areas near the Oslofjord in central Oslo, in order to attract the attention of passersby.

The campaign was intended to demonstrate how litter discarded in the street can be carried by rain, wind, and runoff into the drainage system and from there reach the Oslofjord, where it can break down into microplastics and harm marine life.

The polymer stickers on which the drawings are printed were installed on existing manhole covers (Note that on the current cover, the sticker is not centered).
