General


The covers in Woluwe-Saint-Pierre are generally made of metal or concrete , though covers made of plastic (composite materials) can also be found.
Their shapes are square , rectangular , or circular .
In many cases, circular covers intended for sidewalks are surrounded by a square frame, which greatly facilitates the paving work around them .

No colored or gilded covers were found on the site, and no covers bearing the city emblem were found in Woluwe-Saint-Pierre.
In general, no covers with unique shapes or distinctive designs were found.

The purpose of the covers is unknown in many cases. Where it can be determined, gas covers bear the word GAS (or GAZ) , while water covers may bear the words BOUCHE D’INCENDIE (fire hydrant) , and so on.

The covers were made by the Belgian manufacturer Fondatel-Lecomte , the Danish AVK , the British Elkington Gatic , and others.
