A series of 130 manhole covers produced in 2019 to commemorate the 130th anniversary of Morioka becoming a city in 1889.
The covers are designed to resemble Sansa Taiko drums, which are used to accompany the Sansa Odori, a traditional dance associated with Morioka and performed annually as part of a local summer festival. The outer ring features a repeating triangular pattern inspired by the red and black decoration traditionally found around the rim of these drums. At the centre, the two mascots are depicted dancing the Sansa Odori.
The figures depicted on the cover: On the left: Tofutchi (とふっち), one of the five characters in the Wanko Kyodai mascot group, which promotes tourism in Iwate Prefecture, to which Morioka belongs.
On the right: Sakko-chan (さっこちゃん), the official mascot of the Morioka Sansa Odori Festival.
The combination 合流 is usually used in sewer manhole covers, and according to this the lid category is determined
