Manhole covers in Hungary are typically made of metal or concrete and are mainly rectangular

, round

or square

. There are also elliptical covers (mainly water covers)

and a few covers in other shapes
In many cases, when round covers are intended for sidewalks, they are surrounded by a square frame, which greatly facilitates the paving work around the cover
No colored lids have been found in Hungary, but there are a relatively large number of gilded lids
Since most of the covers as of the time of writing this entry are located in Budapest, in which cases the city symbol appears on the cover

, it is not clear whether this phenomenon also exists in other cities in Hungary.
One of the main consumers of covers is the Budapest Sewerage Department (FCM), and of course it is easy to determine the purpose of the cover from this. On water covers, the word VIZ (water in Hungarian) or the letter W

usually appears.
However, the purpose of many covers is unknown
Manufacturers Surprisingly, the leading manufacturer of covers in Hungary (at least as of this writing) is the German manufacturer Hydrotec

, but there are also covers from local manufacturers: Szegedi Öntöde Kft

, Patina Öntöde

and others.
In addition, covers from major international manufacturers can be found: PAm

, ACO Group

and others.
Standards The international standard EN124 and the load classes D400 or E600 are also common among local manufacturers

, and of course among international manufacturers.
The Hungarian standard MSZ is also found
